Zosia Reynolds, a Hamburg High School senior, is excelling in the New Visions: Education Pathways Academy program. The program, taught by Anthony Lleras at Buffalo State University, allows students to earn both collegiate and high school credits while learning what it takes to be an educator.

Reynolds is currently interested in becoming a school social worker to help create positive change for students.

"Zosia is an exceptionally thoughtful and motivated student who approaches the work with maturity and a genuine commitment to supporting young people," said Lleras. "Zosia is a passionate advocate who cares deeply about meeting the needs of all learners."

"I've really enjoyed having her in class this year." Lleras added. "She consistently contributes meaningful insights, engages deeply with complex issues in education, and demonstrates a level of professionalism that stands out. Zosia has truly excelled in the program through her leadership, empathy, and dedication to making schools better for all students."

In the Q&A below, Reynolds shares her experiences in the program, how it has changed her future in education, and her advice to prospective students.

What made you want to sign up for the Education Pathways Academy New Visions program?

I was going to graduate early, but then I had a teacher tell me about this program. I thought it sounded really interesting and I wanted a chance to start fresh.

What has been your favorite part of the program?

I love all of the new experiences. It's introduced me to a lot of people, and I love being with all the different people.

What has been your favorite thing you've had a chance to do in the Education Pathways Academy program?

I love all the presenters that come in, and I also like it when we present our own lessons. It’s made me realize that what I really want to do is mostly social/emotional things, instead of actual teaching, more social work related.

How has the program changed or altered your career or educational future?

I went in thinking that I wanted to be a special education teacher. I then started learning more about Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and doing SEL lessons, and I fell in love with that. I really want to just teach more about mental health and how we can regulate our emotions.

What do you think is the value of figuring out your career path during high school before you go off to college?

I think it’s a major value because I don’t want to spend a ton of money deciding that I don’t want to do this. I was never even really considering social work, even though my mom is a social worker. It’s really interesting that I’m leaning towards that.

What have been your experiences with your instructor, Anthony Lleras?

He’s been awesome. He’s such a kind guy. He’s been very helpful, especially with my mental health. I have had some rough days, and he’s been such an amazing teacher. He’s such an inspiration for the future teachers in the class.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about signing up for Education Pathways Academy?

It’s amazing, you definitely need to do it. It’s a great way to meet new people and figure out what you want to do with your life.
