Cheektowaga Student Builds a Strong Future in Construction Management

Cheektowaga junior Leo Hunter is excelling in the P-TECH Construction Management program, gaining hands-on experience and building skills that will prepare him for a successful career in the construction industry.

Instructor Cameron Wambsganss praised Leo’s dedication and enthusiasm.

“Leo joined our school from the Depew district and immediately became one of our top students,” Wambsganss said. “He chose the construction management pathway connected to SUNY Erie and has excelled in every project. His favorite from sophomore year was the shed project, which combined skills from multiple units and required teamwork and problem-solving. Leo has shown strong leadership, technical skills, and a commitment to learning that will serve him well in his career.”

Leo appreciates the value of trade programs like P-TECH in preparing students for the workforce.

“I can confidently say that not just P-TECH, but trade schools in general, set you up for career success no matter what program you pick,” he said.

After completing the P-TECH program and earning his Construction Management associate degree through SUNY Erie, Leo plans to begin working in the construction industry.

His ultimate goal is to manage projects that combine hands-on work with blueprint and planning responsibilities, blending his technical skills with leadership and project management expertise.
