Building Trades Students Auctioning Modular Home, Sheds
A modular house and 12 sheds built by Erie 1 BOCES students at the Potter and Harkness Career and Technical Education (CTE) Centers will soon be auctioned off to members of the community, concluding months of hard work and dedication.

The auction will run from May 22 to June 1 through Cash Auctions, with proceeds supporting the program in the future. Visit Cash Auctions to place your bid to win one of the items!
The modular home is a 1,378 square-foot ranch built by seniors at the Potter CTE Center under the supervision of Building Trades instructor David Grieco. The project is a senior capstone and a highlight of the two-year program, which teaches students practical skills they’ll need in all areas of construction.
“The students get real-world experience; they’re actually building a house,” said Grieco. “The seniors really enjoy the project. They’re working as a team on all of the different tasks and different materials. It’s a real-life job site, with inspections, deliveries, timelines, and dealing with the weather.”
The home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet, there is three-inch spray foam insulation in all exterior walls, flooring in all bedrooms and bathrooms, a laundry room, a covered front porch, American Craftsman vinyl windows, and a full set of stamped architectural prints. The master bath includes a jetted tub, 4' stand-up shower, and a double vanity sink.
“It’s very exciting that 17- and 18-year-old students are able to accomplish this,” said Grieco.
When complete, the home will receive a courtesy inspection from the town of West Seneca for rough framing, rough electrical, rough plumbing, and insulation.

The 12 sheds were built by juniors and seniors at the Harkness CTE Center under the guidance of Building Trades instructors Joe Fay and Alex Godfrey.
The project not only teaches students construction skills, but also life skills that will suit them well on future job sites.
“They’re learning soft skills, they’re learning good communications with other students and teamwork,” said Fay. “They’re able to work together with different types of people and different backgrounds.”
